Position Summary

Community Foundation of South Puget Sound is seeking a temporary Programs and Communications Assistant to support our grantmaking and fundraising programs. This position will support our Community Grants and Give Local programs in 2019. Additionally, this position will support other Community Foundation programs as needed. This is a part-time, temporary position with an expected end date on or before December 31, 2019.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITiES (including but not limited to):

Support Grantmaking Programs:

  • Support 2019 Community Grants program which awards $450,000 annually to nonprofits benefitting Thurston, Mason, and Lewis Counties
  • Update and maintain grantee records in the Community Foundation’s online grants platform
  • Provide assistance and respond to inquiries and questions from grantees and applicants
  • Support grants committees including meeting logistics, scheduling grantee interviews, and producing meeting materials
  • Support grant administration including notifying nonprofits of grant decisions, updating decisions in grant platform, completing grant agreements, and distributing funds to nonprofits

Support Give Local:

  • Support Give Local 2019, the Community Foundation’s three-week crowdfunding campaign that encourages online giving
  • Assist with Give Local planning, promotion, publicity, and tracking
  • Communicate with nonprofits regarding and respond to inquiries about Give Local including eligibility to participate, using the online giving platform, and other questions about the program

Support Other Community Foundation Operations and Activities:

  • Support other Community Foundation events including Grant Information Sessions, Capacity Building Trainings, and donor cultivation events  
  • Enter data and support database management functions
  • Assist with answering the phone and greeting visitors
  • Assist in preparing direct mail campaigns, newsletters, e-blasts, mail merges, data pulls, notes, other publications, and special projects
  • Administrative duties such as copying, filing, scanning, and distributing information
  • Collaborate with Community Foundation team members for efficient use of Foundation resources and to maximize effectiveness of all staff


The ideal Programs and Communications Assistant will have the following experience and qualifications:

  • 2+ years working in a nonprofit organization, preferably in fundraising or communications (internships and volunteer experience will be considered) or similar experience
  • General understanding and familiarity with nonprofit sector
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • High level of organization; strong attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple, competing priorities
  • Ability to work in an environment that requires confidentiality for sensitive information
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Experience with CRM platform(s), grant management platform(s), and website management or the capacity to learn them quickly

This is a part-time temporary position that is not eligible for additional benefits. Hours will be approximately 20 to 30 hours per week. Hours may include occasional early morning or evening work.
