Announcing a $100,000 Incentive Fund for Give Local 2018!

October 29, 2018

An initiative of the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound, Give Local, is a three-week crowdfunding campaign that inspires online giving across Thurston, Mason, and Lewis Counties.

“Give Local is part of our effort to grow community philanthropy,” said Norma Schuiteman, President and CEO of the Community Foundation. “Our goals for Give Local are to inspire more local giving, while helping build awareness and support for nonprofits in the South Puget Sound.”

Give Local will feature approximately 75 nonprofit organizations reviewed by the Community Foundation. From October 31 through November 20, 2018, donors are encouraged to “give where you live” by making a donation to one or more local nonprofits on the Give Local online giving platform.

$100,000 Incentive Fund

To inspire giving during Give Local, the Community Foundation has partnered with the Dawkins Charitable Trust to offer a $100,000 Incentive Fund. The incentive fund proportionally increases the value of every dollar donated. For example, if a nonprofit organization receives 5 percent of the total donations during Give Local, that same nonprofit receives 5 percent of the $100,000 Incentive Fund. The 2018 Incentive Fund is 150% larger than last year.

In 2017 Give Local raised $122,530 from individual donors—that amount combined with $40,000 from the Dawkins Charitable Trust meant that an additional $162,560 went out into the community to support local nonprofit organizations. Here is a quick overview of last year’s results.

Like last year, 100% of the funds raised from Give Local are passed along to nonprofits. This is possible because generous support from local businesses helps cover the transaction fees and marketing costs of the campaign.

“In our post-event surveys last year we heard—overwhelmingly—that donors and nonprofits loved the opportunity to participate in Give Local and be part of a community-wide movement to celebrate giving,” said Schuiteman. “We also heard that the incentive grant from the Dawkins Charitable Trust helped inspire people to give. We hope everyone who is able will give local this year and join us in building stronger, more vibrant communities for all.”

Give Local takes place from Wednesday, October 31 through Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Visit our Give Local page for more information.
