Scholarships Available for 2010

Please note: All application materials must be received in hard copy by the posted deadline at The Community Foundation offices. Late applications or electronic applications will not be considered.

Griffin School Foundation-Cody Brown Memorial Scholarship
Background: Cody Brown was a Griffin Elementary School fifth grader when a tragic accident took his life. This award honors his memory.
Amount: $1,000
Key Criteria: Applicant must be a former Griffin School student who attended a minimum of two years at Griffin School.
Deadline: Friday, April 23, 2010 before 5:00 p.m.

Griffin School Foundation-Tiernan-Keigher Scholarship
Background: This award is sponsored by the Griffin School Foundation to recognize an outstanding Griffin School District student.
Amount: $2,500
Key Criteria: Live in the Griffin School District boundaries OR attend Griffin School AND be the equivalent of an 8th grade student.
Deadline: Friday, May 21, 2010 before 5:00 p.m.

Ellen Anderson deMoise Scholarship
Background: Luellen Charneski created this scholarship in honor of her mother, for whom the award is named.
Amount: (3) $2,000

Background: The Judahs' children created this scholarship as a legacy to honor their parents.
Amount: $1,000
Key Criteria: Thurston County graduating seniors, with preference given to those planning a teaching career.

L & E Bottling Company Scholarship
Background: The L & E Bottling Company, Inc. Scholarship Fund was established to assist graduating high school seniors in Thurston County in obtaining a higher education.
Amount: $1,000
Key Criteria: Thurston County graduating seniors

John and Opal McGimpsey Scholarship

Background: John and Opal established this fund in the belief that education is important and that scholarships of significant dollar value would help conscientious students remain more focused on their studies.
Amount: Up to $10,000/year with potential to reapply for 3 years
Key Criteria: Open to Olympia and North Thurston High School graduating seniors

Dan R. Montgomery Scholarship
Background: The Montgomery family established the Dan R. Montgomery scholarship fund in 2003 to encourage young women and men to pursue higher education.
Amount: $1,000
Key Criteria: The fund focus is on students who wish to pursue the honorable profession of law enforcement officer. The scholarship is limited to Thurston County High School seniors. Those attending a Washington state institution will be given preference.

Background: This scholarship was created by a local businessman to assist those planning to pursue vocational careers.
Amount: $1,000
