Applying for Scholarships

Scholarships Available for 2012

Please note: All application materials must be received in hard copy by the posted deadline at The Community Foundation offices. Late applications or electronic applications will not be considered.

This spring we are in the process of moving into new offices at 212 Union Ave. SE, Ste. 102, Olympia, WA 98501.

If you mail your application, please use the new address above. If you personally deliver your application, please be advised that our office is NOT always open and you should not assume someone will be here. Call ahead and don’t wait until the last minute, or your application could be disqualified.

Dan R. Montgomery Scholarship
Background: The Montgomery family established the Dan R. Montgomery scholarship fund in 2003 to encourage young women and men to pursue higher education.
Amount: $1,000
Key Criteria: Applicants must have already been accepted for admission to a two or four-year institution and plan to pursue a professional law enforcement career. Those planning to attend a college or university in Washington State will be given preference.

Ecosystems Scholarship
Background: This Scholarship Fund was established to assist college students who have declared their major field of study in natural resources or land use planning. Visit the Ecosystems Scholarship website for more information.
Amount: $5,000
Key Criteria: Sophomore status or above at UW, WWU, WSU or TESC & a declared major in natural resources or land use planning.

Ellen Anderson deMoise Scholarship
Background: Luellen Charneski created this scholarship in honor of her mother, for whom the award is named.
Amount: (2) $2,000
Key Criteria: Lewis County High School graduating senior

Griffin School Foundation-Cody Brown Memorial Scholarship
Background: Cody Brown was a Griffin Elementary School fifth grader when a tragic accident took his life. This award honors his memory.
Amount: $1,000
Key Criteria: Applicant must have been a Griffin School student who attended a minimum of two years at Griffin School, and currently be a high school senior in a public or accredited private high school in Thurston County as of September of the application year.

Griffin School Foundation-Tiernan-Keigher Scholarship
Background: This award is sponsored by the Griffin School Foundation to recognize an outstanding Griffin School District student.
Amount: $2,500
Key Criteria: Live in the Griffin School District boundaries OR attend Griffin School AND be the equivalent of an 8th grade student.
Deadline: Friday, May 18, 2012 before 5:00 p.m.

John and Opal McGimpsey Scholarship
Background: John and Opal established this fund in the belief that education is important and that scholarships of significant dollar value would help conscientious students remain more focused on their studies.
Amount: Up to $10,000/year with potential to reapply for 3 years
Key Criteria: Open to Olympia and North Thurston High School graduating seniors.
Deadline: Friday, April 27, 2012 before 5:00 p.m.

The Learning Seed Scholarship
Background: The Learning Seed Scholarship Fund was established by the Learning Seed Foundation to assist high school seniors in Thurston and Pierce County in obtaining a higher education. This scholarship is designed to benefit students of color who have overcome significant obstacles and demonstrate a commitment to others.
Amount: $1,000
Key Criteria: Thurston or Pierce County graduating seniors

L & E Bottling Company Scholarship
Background: The L & E Bottling Company, Inc. Scholarship Fund was established to assist graduating high school seniors in Thurston County in obtaining a higher education.
Amount: $1,000

Next Step Scholarship
Background: This scholarship was created by a local businessman to assist those planning to pursue vocational careers.
Amount: $1,000
Key Criteria: Avanti, Olympia or Rainier High School Seniors

William and Dorothy Judah Scholarship
Background: The Judahs' children created this scholarship as a legacy to honor their parents.
Amount: $1,000
Key Criteria: Thurston County graduating seniors, with preference given to those planning a teaching career.
