About The Community Foundation

In 1989, local leaders gathered at a Futures 2010 conference to identify structures needed to sustain and strengthen communities for the 21st century. Several individuals recognized that a structure which allowed charitable gifts to be invested permanently would provide a steady stream of income to address current needs, changing priorities and new opportunities. They decided that starting a community foundation, a model for building and sustaining community with charitable gifts invested over decades, was the answer. And so in late 1989, a foundation for the community, The Community Foundation of South Puget Sound was formed. Now one of over 700 community foundations in the country, it serves Lewis, Mason and Thurston counties.

The vision has not changed over the years. Individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations have established over 75 funds at the Foundation to benefit the arts, education, the environment, health and human services, and community development. This is the heart of the matter-building a better community by supporting programs and organizations that matter.

Gifts of any size can be made, ranging from an annual contribution to an existing fund to establishing a fund. The types of gifts one can give are varied, from cash and highly appreciated stock to real estate. There's a place for every donor at The Community Foundation. Because, after all, it is your community's foundation.

Mission
